Media & Fan Content Policy

Our Mission

Starbase48 is a Star Trek & Science Fiction Fan and Social Club dedicated to celebrating imagination, creativity, friendship, and the shared love of science fiction.

We encourage members to create, share, and enjoy fan-created works while respecting the rights of original creators, fellow fans, and intellectual property owners.

This policy explains what may be shared on Starbase48.com and how we manage community content.

1. Community Standards

All submitted content must reflect the values of Starbase48:

Members are encouraged to share original or properly licensed content related to:

3. Original Content

Whenever possible, submit content you created yourself.

This includes:

Photography
Videos
Articles
Reviews
Music
Costumes
Models
Podcasts

By uploading original work, you confirm that you own the rights or have permission to publish it.

4. Fan Art & Fan Fiction

Starbase48 proudly supports fan creativity.

Members may share:

Original fan artwork
Fan fiction
Digital artwork
Traditional artwork
3D models
Cosplay photography
Original stories
Character concepts
Original science fiction inspired by existing franchises

Whenever possible:

Credit inspiration sources.
Do not claim ownership of copyrighted characters or franchises.
Clearly identify fan-created works.

5. Star Trek Intellectual Property

Starbase48 is an independent fan organization.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Paramount Global, CBS Studios, or any other Star Trek rights holder.

Star Trek names, logos, uniforms, ships, characters, sounds, and related intellectual property remain the property of their respective owners.

Our website exists to celebrate fandom—not to replace or compete with official products.

6. Copyright Policy

Only upload material that you:

Created yourself,
Own,
Have permission to use, or
Are legally permitted to share.

Do not upload:

Movies
Television episodes
Entire comic books
Full novels
Commercial music
Paid digital products
Pirated material
Copyrighted software
Unauthorized scans

Short quotations, commentary, reviews, and transformative fan works may be acceptable where permitted by applicable law, but users remain responsible for ensuring their submissions comply with copyright requirements.

If a copyright owner contacts Starbase48 regarding infringing material, we may remove the content while the matter is reviewed.

7. AI-Generated Content

AI-assisted artwork and writing are welcome provided that:

They comply with our Code of Conduct.
They do not intentionally imitate living artists in a misleading way.
They do not falsely claim to be official Star Trek material.
They are not used to deceive members.

Whenever practical, please identify AI-assisted creations as such.

8. Photography & Event Images

Members are encouraged to share photographs from:

Club meetings
Conventions
Community events
Charity activities
Cosplay gatherings
Group outings

Please remember:

Respect privacy.
Ask permission before posting close-up photos of individuals, especially children.
Honor requests from anyone who asks not to be photographed or publicly identified whenever reasonably possible.

9. Video & Streaming

Members may share:

Convention videos
Club meeting highlights
Livestream recordings
Interviews
Tutorials
Podcasts
Event recaps

Please ensure you have permission to record and publish content at venues or events where required.

10. Content Moderation

To maintain a welcoming and family-friendly community, submitted media may be:

Automatically scanned for malware.
Reviewed by moderators.
Evaluated for compliance with Club policies.

Content may be edited, restricted, or removed if it:

Violates the Code of Conduct
Contains harassment or hate speech
Contains explicit or excessively graphic material
Promotes illegal activity
Contains malware or malicious code
Violates copyright or trademark laws
Is misleadingly presented as official Star Trek or Starbase48 material
Is primarily commercial advertising or spam

11. Commercial Promotion

Starbase48 is a fan community, not a marketplace.

Members may occasionally share:

Convention booths
Fan projects
Small creator shops
Charity fundraisers
Club-approved merchandise

However, repetitive advertising, unsolicited sales, referral links, or promotional spam are not permitted without prior approval from Club leadership.

12. Member License

By submitting content to Starbase48, you grant the Club a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to:

Display your content on the Starbase48 website.
Include it in newsletters.
Feature it on official social media channels.
Use it in event presentations.
Promote Club activities.

You retain ownership of your original work. This license allows Starbase48 to showcase your contribution while you remain the copyright holder.

13. Content Removal

You may request removal of your original content by contacting Starbase48.

We will make reasonable efforts to remove or anonymize your content, although archival copies, backups, printed materials, or legal records may be retained where necessary.

Starbase48 also reserves the right to remove content that no longer aligns with this policy or the Club’s mission.

14. Reporting Concerns

If you believe content on Starbase48:

Infringes your copyright,
Violates your privacy,
Misuses your likeness,
Violates our Code of Conduct, or
Otherwise conflicts with this policy,

We will review concerns promptly and take appropriate action when warranted.

15. Policy Updates

This Media & Fan Content Policy will be reviewed at least every five (5) years, consistent with the Starbase48 Bylaws.

The Executive Board may update this policy sooner if needed to address changes in technology, community practices, legal requirements, or Club operations. Material updates will be posted on the website with a revised effective date.
