Premiering in 1966, Star Trek: The Original Series introduced audiences to Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, and the crew of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701).

Created by Gene Roddenberry, the series envisioned a future where humanity had overcome many of its differences to explore the galaxy in peace. Welcome Aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise

Premiering in 1973, Star Trek: The Animated Series (TAS) continued the adventures of Captain Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise following the events of The Original Series. Produced by Filmation, the animated format allowed Star Trek to explore exotic alien worlds, imaginative lifeforms, and spectacular environments that would have been difficult to realize with the television budgets of the late 1960s.

Although originally aimed at younger audiences, TAS has become an important part of Star Trek history and was the first Star Trek series to win an Emmy Award.
